Hippie Daze on 4th Avenue this weekend

The 100th Birthday celebrations continue in Kits this weekend with Kitsilano Hippie Daze on Saturday. If you’re on a street named after a tree and just off of West 4th Ave, look out for the following:

  • Vine Street: Live 60s Music from the Main StageKitsilano_hippie_daze
  • Yew Street: The “Let it all Hang Out” Coffee Garden
  • Cypress Street: DJ Street Dance Party
  • Maple Street: Learn How to Macrame
  • Pine Street – 60s era Car Display

If you’ll really into 60s nostalagia, check out the Russian Community Hall @ 2114 West 4th – this is the old ‘Afterthought‘ nightclub and a collection of original 60s rock posters by Bob Masse will be on display.

The City of Vancouver doesn’t like Kitsilano.ca stickers on their light standards, but this weekend there is nothing stopping you from painting ‘Kitsilano.ca’ around Kits. Look out for the Psychedelic Pole Painting exhibits in the neighbourhood. Whether you’re an artist or just wanting to experience the creative expression and freeform art of the era, you’ll have your chance to paint a street poles along 4th Ave. Wait! You’ll need to register before you get started.

Another coool Kits event put on by the city. I hope this kind of stuff can continue next year. 101 years deserves some attention too.
