Now that we’re through to round two some of you may be wondering where’s the best place to watch a Canucks playoff game in Kitsilano.
There are the restaurants recommended by the Canucks themselves – DB Bistro Moderne on West Broadway and Incendio West on Burrard – but these are hardly representative of Kitsilano’s diehard hockey fans. And not necessarily a guarantee that they’re going to turn up the volume and put their beer on special.
Where will you be watching the Canucks on their road to the Stanley Cup?
Comment away and we’ll put together the ultimate list of Canucks-friendly Bars and Restaurants in Kits.

Maclean’s Anne Kingston reported today that the Canadian Men’s Olympic hockey team dined at db Bistro Moderne last night and will be dining at the Kits hotspot on its off-nights between games for the remainder of the tournament.
The team’s unmarked white bus pulled up at 6:30 and the players, who had just all met one another as a team two days previously, filed through the entrance bar area where many picked up a glass of beer. They then took their place at a long table where they were served “family style,” the food presented on platters, while managers and trainers fanned out at surrounding tables. Spending a night outside of the Olympic Village offered the team vital bonding and relaxation time, head coach Mike Babcock explained as the team chowed down on a delicious, well-balanced, management-approved dinner.
According to Kingston, the wine flowed “moderately” during the dinner that wound down at 8:30 – Sidney Crosby nursed two glasses of red.

Ready, Set, Go! Dine Out Vancouver reservations start today.
Some people hate it, others love it. When we finally made it to our first Dine Out meal at Gastropod last year I thoroughly loved it, while my wife found the whole experience so-so. What I loved was that we finally managed to try a restaurant we had been meaning to go to for a while at a very reasonable price. And we were more than rewarded on that front. What my wife disliked about the whole experience was the fairly unwelcoming atmosphere. And I’ll admit, it was somewhat of a rushed dinner.
I’m not sure yet whether or not we’ll make it out for Dine Out this year, but I guess we better decide soon, as tables tend to go fast.
Here are the Dine Out 2009 participants located in Kitsilano:

We managed to make it out for lunch at db Bistro Moderne last Monday. Originally we were thinking to go for dinner, but logistics worked in favour of lunch, and the menus are fairly similar.
The new space is beautiful, and it’s certainly more spacious than Feenies was. I wonder what that means for Lumiere, perhaps they had to give up some seats. Anyway, we didn’t come for the decor, we came for the food. More specifically, I came for the db Burger.
But, first things first. We started the afternoon with a Caesar Salad, which, truth be told, we both thought was somewhat sub-par. Nothing spectacular, just a very plain salad with dressing that almost tasted like it was store bought. And at $16 that is a tad disappointing.
Next up, our main courses. Steak Frites for my wife and the db Burger for me. Wow. Both dishes were amazing. I have always found it surprisingly hard to find good steak in this city, and usually just don’t bother ordering it for fear of disappointment. My wife has no such fear, and she was hugely rewarded. A great steak with fantastic fries. As for the burger, it sure did live up to its reputation. More meatball than burger, this monster – filled with braised short ribs and foie gras – is simply delicious. This could well become Vancouver’s best burger, just like its predecessor. The title that it already gets is most expensive burger; at $28 this will not turn into a regular indulgence.
Desert had us strongly divided. We shared the chocolate sundae, an intricately layered desert in a glass, that I thought was delicious, but my wife thought was so-so. She thought the bottom layer was rubbery and the chocolate whip cream “just wrong”. Then again, I am the one in our house that always orders chocolate deserts, whereas my wife never does, so trust me, it was delicious!
In all, a great experience, but probably not one we will be able to repeat too soon or too often.

Andrew Morrison of Urban Diner has great connections in the Vancouver restaurant biz – even stories that unfriendly restaurant owners would never consider sending his way end up in his mailbox. Nice score Andrew!
The design schematics for DB Bistro Moderne and Lumiere have landed our way, several months before the side-by-side restaurants are set to launch. Word is I’m not in the Sidoos’ good books so I’m pretty certain it didn’t come from them. A frigate bird, perhaps.
Unauthorised leak or not, Lumiere as we knew it is gone, shrunken in size to just 51 seats (including bar). DB Bistro looks to have a separate, 21 seat bar/lounge/holding area. I like the look of the curved corner banquettes, and I’m particularly taken by the symbolism of the revolving door.
Check out the plans over at Urban Diner.
