Thanks to the folks behind KitsFest, Vancouver may have its own bathtub race circuit next summer.

Canada One Foundation, organizers of an annual sports and healthy living festival at Kitsilano Beach, suggested the inclusion of bathtub racing in their line-up of activities and today the Vancouver Park Board unanimously approved a motion to allow bathtub racing during the annual KitsFest event next year.

Bathtub racing took place annually between Nanaimo and Kitsilano Beach from 1967 to 1996, with hundreds of tubs crossing the choppy waters of the Strait of Georgia.

Scheduled to be held at Kitsilano Beach on August 11th, the event would see a bathtub racing circuit set up in English Bay, with races going on throughout the afternoon.
