This weekend is looking sunny, warm, and best of all rain free! And to make things even better, it’s a long weekend folks! Here are just some ideas of what to do this Labour Long Weekend, from chilling at the beach and farmers market to taking a trip north.

Eat and Gaze

Friday, September 1st

There’s nothing better than sipping a cold drink at one of our fantastic beaches, and nearby Jericho Beach has one of the best spots to do it right now – The Galley Patio & Grill. This super casual restaurant sits as close to the beach as possible, with unobstructed views of English Bay and beyond. Nosh on classic beach fare including fish & chips, oversized and perfect for sharing nachos, plus they have kids meals, craft beers, and ice cream for dessert. If you find yourself here on the weekends, they even serve breakfast until 11:30am.

In the evening, take advantage of these warm and clear sky nights and head over to the Gordon MacMillan Southam Observatory next to the Space Centre at Vanier Park. Peak through the 1/2 metre Cassegrain telescope and let your imagination run wild. Knowledgeable staff are there to help you distinguish satellite from alien space ship. Observatory hours are Fridays and Saturdays from 8pm till midnight and admission is by donation.

Drive

Saturday, September 2nd

Go on a little weekend adventure getaway and take the two-hour drive up to Whistler Village for their Labour Day Long Weekend in Whistler event from September 2nd till the 4th. The three-day event will include free concerts, culinary events, outdoor activities, family fun, and free public transit to get you around the mountain for the weekend. Just plan your trip accordingly due to the typical long weekend traffic (which will no doubt stuff up the bridges around here).

Shop

Sunday, September 3rd

Sundays in Kits are all about hanging around the local farmers market at the Kitsilano Community Centre and pretending to do your bit to save the world. And even as the summer wanes, the fruits of the season are at their very best right now. Look for crispy new apples, juicy peaches, and perhaps even some early blackberries. Don’t miss market favourites like Earnest Ice Cream and the Chickpea Food Truck. The market is on from 10am till 2pm.
