While our Kitsilano neighbourhood gets more expensive by the minute, there are still plenty of excellent lunch options around that won’t cost you more than your hourly wage.

From fresh and delicious sandwiches and salads to curries, burgers, and sushi, here’s our quick guide to a cheap lunch in Kits.

Sandwiches

An easy, classic choice for a healthy and satisfying lunch, a decent sandwich should never cost more than $10, and it won’t at Tractor Foods ($9.50) on West 4th Avenue, Plaisir Sucre ($6.99) on Arbutus Street, and Terra Breads ($9.50) on West 4th Avenue.

Vegetarian

Veggie-filled quesadillas, tacos, burritos, salads, and soups are all under $10 at 24hr The Naam on West 4th Avenue. Or how about a savoury falafel wrap for $6.50 at Al Basha on West Broadway or Cornwall Avenue. And Basil Pasta Bar has loads of vegetarian pasta options, all for $9.95.

Good Fast Food

For $9.95 you can get a grass-fed local beef burger from Moderne Burger on West Broadway. Tera V Burger, also on West Broadway, offers a wide range of vegetarian burgers that start at a mere $6.49.

Sushi

For cheap and cheerful Japanese bento boxes, Jun Sushi has several of them for about $8, Green Leaf Sushi and Hoshi Sushi have one for $9, and Temaki Sushi has one for $10. All are on West Broadway.

Something Different

Bangkok City Cafe on West 4th Avenue has great lunch specials at $9.95 including various curries that come with rice, salad, and crispy wontons, while Tandoori Fusion on West Broadway has vegetarian lunch plates for $9.99 that come with about 6 different items. Thai Basil (with two locations in Kits – one on West Broadway and one on Cornwall Avenue), has even cheaper lunch specials that start at $5.95!
