Sooner or later this boon of sun will come to an end. Better get going on some of these fun activities in our Kitsilano neighbourhood, most of which are free, while you are umbrella-free.

Swim

The ocean-side salt water Kitsilano Pool is only open for a few more weeks as it closes early this year on September 5th for renovations. Try out the Aquafit drop-in class which is on until August 26th and runs Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 6pm-7pm, and on Saturdays from 10:15am-11:15am.

Shop

Roam the stalls with hordes of your neighbours at the Kitsilano Farmer’s Market. Get there at opening time (10am) to snag the best of this season’s goodies before they do, including fresh farm eggs, apricots, blueberries, cherries, goose berries, peaches, raspberries, red currants, and tayberries. The little mini Westside Community Food Market is worth a look too, and it’s on until September 14th, every Thursday, from 3pm till 7pm.

Drink + Eat

Grab a sunny spot on your favourite patio (Las Margaritas, Lucky Taco, Cacao, and Local to name a few) and enjoy a refreshing drink and a bite to eat. Linger al fresco until it’s closing time.

Move

Bike or stroll along the temporary Arbutus Greenway – a former (and perhaps future) rail corridor that’s been paved and mulched for your enjoyment. Portable washrooms, benches, and other surprises are found along the way.

Watch

The historic Kitsilano Showboat has its last live dance and musical performances this week, with the final closing night on Saturday, August 19th. This week’s shows will feature a 17-piece jazz orchestra band, contemporary folk music, classical singing, folk dancers, and an acoustic string band. All shows start at 7pm and are free and suitable for all ages.
