Sometimes a cool, one-handed lunch taken by straw is all that you need on a warm summer’s day.

And besides that, it’s the ideal way of sneaking in some more of that loathed, uh, we mean loved and completely adored kale. Here are four recommended places to get your hands on a smoothie in Kitsilano today.

Jusu Bar

Recently replacing Krokodile Pear on West 1st Avenue, this rapidly expanding juice bar company (originally from Victoria) has organic smoothies that are made with all the latest superfood ingredients – turmeric, maple water, various nut mylks, and so on. They also sell gloriously healthy snacks and a line of their pulp-infused body care products – it’s all about zero waste at Jusu Bar.

East is East

The convenient take-out window and tree stump seats here are perfect for ordering and enjoying one of their Eastern Shakes that are made with your choice of either vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt. Go simple with just blueberries, strawberries, and cherries in their Kathmandu Hash, or go exotic with various options that include rosewater, pistachio, cardamom, and other daring spices. Their traditional yogurt lassies are refreshing and delightful, too.

Sejuiced

This casual vegetarian lunch spot has been juicing fresh greens and ripe fruit way before it became such a thing to intake these foods in liquid form. And Sejuiced’s prices haven’t gotten too out of hand either (12 ounce smoothies are a mere $6.50). Try their sweet and energizing Brain Tonic that includes strawberries, bananas, coconut milk, apple, panax ginseng, and gingko biloba.

The Good Stuff

Want to make your own smoothies at home but don’t have the time to shop for, wash, cut up, and sort your favourite veggies and fruit? Give these local guys a try. The Good Stuff is a smoothie delivery service that provides you with all the main ingredients you’ll need (most of it organic and local from places like the UBC Farm), frozen and ready-to-blend when you are. You can also pick your order up from Greens Market on West Broadway or from their little counter at 4515 West 10th Avenue.
