The weather forecast should just say “cloudy with a mix of sun and rain” for our entire spring and summer this year. That would certainly be more accurate than what the reports have shown these last few weeks. Whether the sun will come out to play or not, here are 4 fun Vancouver events for the whole family to enjoy over the next few months. Nevermind what the meteorologists out there are predicting.

4 Family Friendly-Summer Events

1. Children’s Festival: On now until June 1, tickets $25 adult/$15 child/free for babies
Head on down to the Vancouver International Children’s Festival on Granville Island this week (through June 1) for some real family fun. Events include a theatrical circus, life-size dinosaurs, First Nations dance troupes, popular children’s singers, comedy acts, Brazilian acrobatics, puppetry, and much more.

2. Greek Day: June 22, 11am-9pm, free
Attracting nearly 100,000 attendees from across the Lower Mainland, Greek Day takes place on Broadway, from MacDonald to Blenheim Street. Feast on authentic Greek food while enjoying folkloric performances and live music. Take some Greek dance lessons, browse the Athenian Agora Market Place or watch live Greek cooking demonstrations. Plus there’s a kids zone, a raffle for a free trip to Greece, and an Hellenic Experience Tent featuring activities and presentations showcasing Greek culture.

3. Khatsahlano Block Party: July 12, 11am-9pm, free
Stroll down West 4th Avenue from Burrard to MacDonald this summer and experience the annual Khatsahlano Block Party. This buzzing event includes over 40 food trucks, 50 amazing bands, and 100s of merchants and vendors. Read more about the participating bands for Khatsahlano here.

4. Celebration of Light: July 26, July 30, and August 2nd, 10pm, free
The Honda Celebration of Light is not only Vancouver’s biggest event, but it’s also the largest offshore fireworks competition in the world and attracts up to 400,000 spectators along English Bay each evening. Watch the 25min show from our own Kitsilano Beach or plan a patio party if you’re lucky enough to have a view! Read more about the fireworks competitors here.
