The Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival believes that chocolate makes people happy. No one is going to argue with that. The annual celebration of drinkable chocolate takes place now through February 14. Kitsilano, which is fairly stuffed with patisseries and chocolatières, has some truly decadent and wild versions of the drink on offer.

The hot chocolate menu options vary by day. Today, for example, Chocolate Arts, in the budding Armoury district (adjacent to Kits) will serve When Pigs Fly, featuring Alto El Sol, an exquisitely rich single origin chocolate, topped with a maple bacon marshmallow and served with a peanut butter cookie. Feel free to swoon.

Cocoal Nymph will serve Emily Rose – orange drinking chocolate  topped with a house made rose-coconut marshmallow. Read the rest of their festival menu here. Meanwhile the new Beaucoup Bakery has an exquisite bitter dark drinking choc – fittingly named The Sweet of Bitter Dark – in honour of a the love poem ‘To Earthward’ by Frost.

The 3rd annual Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival runs now through Valentine’s Day. So grab your boo; make a mother daughter date; rope in a girlfriend; take the kids… and try a new flavour! Funds raised from the 2013 Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival will be donated to Vancouver’s A Better Life Foundation.

I just read on Yelp where some fool paid over $11.00 for a cup of hot chocolate-is that stupid or what?
