Active Wear from Salt Spring Island

1451

Some pretty darn good things come from Salt Spring Island, including great coffee and some awesome cow’s and goat’s milk cheeses (all available at Capers and Choices). Add to that an active wear clothing line and I’m tempted to claim that Salt Spring Island may very well be the Kitsilano of the Gulf Islands.

Skyler Clothing recently opened a funky looking store at 1854 West 4th (between Burrard and Cypress). If you ask me, they may have a bit of a tough time on that stretch of 4th as most other stores of their ilk (Karma, Lotuswear, Lululemon, and Lululemon spin-off Oqoqo) are all conveniently located around Arbutus. However, according to their website, they may be different enough to warrant a trek down the hill to include them next time you are looking for active wear (and I am specifically talking to the female audience here, as Skyler currently only carries clothing for women, including maternity clothing):

Skyler Clothing is a Canadian designed line of fashionable active and street wear. We have designer cuts with great fit and color selection. Some people compare us to Lululemon Athletica, Karma, Lotus Wear, Tonic, Prana, TNA, Aritzia and Roxy clothing. We are different because we target a more  fashionable, not so technical market. Some styles are focused on functionality for yoga, fitness, activity and exercise. Other clothing pieces are just for fun and fashion.

[UPDATE: It’s funny how these things go. Today, a day after I uploaded this post, I ran into Skyler’s Deneige Davis on West 4th. She was promoting their upcoming official opening. On Saturday, November 3rd, they will be hosting a grand opening evening, promoting health, wellness, and community living. There will be door prizes, draws, and a silent auction, the proceeds of which will go to the David Suzuki Foundation.

So next time you are shopping for active wear, check out Skyler. From what I saw when I quickly poked my head in a couple of weeks ago, the store looks pretty cool. And for those with kids, Skyler has a kids’ play area downstairs.]
